Learning Management Systems
Learning Management Systems (LMS) are single platforms that have the ability to deliver content, assessment pieces, forums and results. Examples of Learning Managements Systems are Moodle, Blackboard and WebCT. There are two different categories of Learning Management Systems which are open source and propriety. Open source LMS’s are cheap and flexible with a range of functions but do sometimes lack in good documentation and backup support. Propriety are more expensive and lack in flexibility, but are equipped with better documentation and backup support. Most Learning Management Systems are password protected, ensuring that only authorised users can access the content and information held on the LMS. Learning Management System can be used in the classroom environment as it is a place where all students are able access content, view assessment and contribute to group forums to assist in collaboration.
